Kona Kai Coffee, in Tukwila Village, is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of a part time cook. Kona Kai is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the FareStart network that works to educate and train unemployed individuals in food service and barista skills. Kona Kai focuses on working with people who are currently experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness due to the racial, economic, and societal barriers they face. The cook position is for 20-30 hours per week cooking a full menu including soups, salads, sandwiches, and other hot dishes. We are looking for someone who is committed to the vision of Kona Kai, and who will bring creativity and hard work to our kitchen.


  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies

  • Prepare food for service/mise en place

  • Cook all menu items

  • Collaborate with management on menu items, service, and preparation

  • Clean up all stations and take care of leftover food

  • Appropriately stock inventory

  • Ensure all food is prepared in a timely fashion and with high standards

  • Comply with all King County and Washington State sanitation and safety standards

  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and professional work environment

  • Willingness to teach culinary skills to students in Kona Kai’s program.


  • Cooking experience as a line cook, prep cook, or restaurant cook

  • Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and best practices·

COMPENSATION: We offer competitive pay commensurate with experience. Base pay is $13-$15 depending on experience.
